My Thoughts on Rita

I have lived my entire life here in Houston. It is a great city and a great state. For the past few days all that has been on TV is news about Rita. Come On, give me a break!!! I lived through Alicia in 1983 and a few other tropical storms. If you are prepared they are no big deal depending on where you live in the area. I am on the NW side of town. Approximately 60 miles from the coast and approximately 50 ft above sea level. The thing you have to watch out for is tornadoes. If you are close to the coast then for sure you want to evacuate. But not 60 miles inland. Part of the problem that happened on the highways over the past week was that hundreds of thousands of people fled that didn't need to. Then look what happened. It barely affected most of the Houston area. The winds were high and blew out power across the city. Other than that my area only got 1/2" of rain. Look Out !!!! There was no need to panic or make a mad dash for the gas station.

On another note my wife and I have come to the conclusion that a majority of news reporters are idiots. The best question that I heard all weekend was asked by a reporter to a gas station owner on why he thought the fuel truck didn't show up on Friday and why he thought it would be Monday before it came. HELLOOOOOOO !!!!!!! Aren't you covering 24 hours news on this....let's all sit and think on why the fuel truck didn't make it to Houston. Hmmmmmmm.....maybe because all the highways were out bound only....hmmmmmm.....maybe because of the hurricane....hmmmmmm....Great Question Dumbass.

Also, I believe that the local government and state did a good job with all this.

Reminder **** It is not the governments responsibility to provide toilets along the evacuation routes (as one local complained). It is not the governments responsibilty to make sure you have food and water while you are heading out of town. Most of the people I saw complaining on the news were not even from the areas that had Mandatory Evacuations. If you are not from those areas then you have no right to complain. So shut up and go home. Everything will be ok.
